ASSESSMENT OVERVIEW
Due: by 11:55 PM the night before your next class in Week 5.
Format: All reflections from weeks 1 – 4 must be compiled as a single PDF document which must be submitted to the Reflective Journal #1 Submission folder within this section.
Worth: 20% of the semester grade.
Length: 1500 words, +/- 10% (images and reference lists are not counted within the word limit)
Suggested structure: around 300 words for introduction and 300 words per week

Use this guiding question to structure your first reflective journal:
What is your experience with specific skill development through design thinking and how might this be applied in professional business contexts?
The Employability Skills Reflection #1 worksheet (Week 1 on Moodle) will introduce you to a range of skills that you can actively work on during this unit. Consider these skills each week as you write your reflective journal.
Following each class (including Week 1), you should write an entry into your Reflective Journal #1. Each reflection should focus on your skill development as a result of completing that week’s creative activities, video lecture and reading. You will then need to discuss how these experiences and skills could translate into a professional business contexts.
Reflections should include a combination of text, images and diagrams. Extra points go to those that use their own images and create their own diagrams to help communicate their reflections.
References should be used to support your reflections. These should include at least the assigned weekly readings, though can also be enhanced through other relevant literature that you find. All references should be done using APA7 referencing.

You can consider the some of following points in your reflections:
What employability skill(s) did I work on this week?
How did specific moments during the activities allow me to work on a specific skill?
What did I learn through the readings and video lecture this week?
How could these skills and knowledge from readings help me in my future professional business context?
Include images of your design work from class (images will not detract from word count)
Generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies: You will be invited to explore generative AI technologies for critique and reflection during some design thinking tasks within this unit. Despite this, this Reflection Journal must be written in your own words, showcasing your own personal experience and perspective - without the use of generative AI technologies. Basing your reflections on your personal experience and perspective will provide the greatest benefit to your learning. Where ever generative AI technologies have been used in you submission (activities or writing), you must acknowledge their use clearly in your submission. Failing to do so may be considered a breach of academic integrity.

Assessment criteria
Capacity for critical reflection (40%) - This criterion focuses on the ability to reflect critically on your experience and skill development in relation to design thinking activities and concepts.
Capacity to connect ideas (40%) - This criterion focuses on the ability to make clear and direct connections between design thinking concepts and business contexts through referencing your experience in and out of class, the weekly readings, and other academic or professional resources.
Professionalism (20%) - This criterion focuses on the level of professionalism displayed in your work. It refers to how your work has been completed, how it is presented, how you have used supporting images and how readings are referenced
