EDF4101 Assessment task 1 (EDF4101 AT1): Analysis task

Assessment task link to unit learning outcomes:
This task is designed to align with the following intended learning outcomes; namely that students:
1. demonstrate their understanding of the different types of methodologies and research methods.
2. show their capacity to generate data ethically and analyse its significance.
3. reflect on how educational research supports professional learning and practice development, including their own.

Details of task: Background:
As an analysis task, this assignment invites you to demonstrate your understanding of the key methodological elements and decisions required for designing a small scale, professional focused research study.
It builds on your research narrative (AT1) and literature review from EDF4100 (AT2), but shifts the focus onto how you might propose and plan to research your topic and research question/s, and your reflections about this, e.g. its strengths and limitations, in light of thought, trialling and piloting, and experience during the semester within and beyond unit sessions.
In this task, you are expected to clearly describe and concisely elaborate on your choice of methodology and methods, consider constraints associated with research during this unit (e.g. time, ethics, logistics), and other issues relevant to educational research raised in the textbook and sessions.
In the other EDF4101 assignments (AT2/3), you will focus on providing and discussing the findings, reflecting on these and the strengths, adequacies and insights gained from your project and the research design you chose.

Details of task:
The AT1 task simulates the methodological and ethical processes that professional researchers often complete, when preparing a proposal or submitting a report on a study, i.e. describing and concisely explaining their study based on a pre-specified template that covers the main features of the study.

Preparing and submitting your analysis
In preparing a submission, we recommend preparing all the elements first, in Word, and save your file. Some versions of Word will allow you to create a PDF directly onscreen, or from 'Save As'.
An uploaded PDF is the only version a tutor can mark - not a Word version.
NB for tips on writing concisely, look online or visit the library. Average word and character counts are based on academic journal standards, and vary slightly depending on section, to reflect the typical range and type of language used.
The elements of the template are as follows:
•    Title (modelled on that for a research article) (max 15 words or equivalent characters)
•    Abstract (a concise and compelling summary of your research) (max 150 words or equivalent characters)
•    Keywords (relevant to your study) (5 keywords)
•    Justification of topic and research focus (including key substantive literature - e.g. rewording themes from AT1 and AT2 EDF4100, and showing that you have developed your ideas since then, e.g. in light of EDF4101) (max 250 words or equivalent characters)
•    Research design (focusing on key research design literature and ethical procedures relevant to your topic, and the methodology and methods you plan to use for data collection and analysis - from EDF4101) (max 900 words or equivalent characters)
•    Expected outcomes/implications (e.g. showing why this research design can help address your research topic, and how it relates to professional practice development) (max 200 words or equivalent characters) 看HD samples弄清
•    Limitations of the research design (e.g. acknowledgement of the limitations in, for example, the sample size, data analysis, ethics, possible implications, given insights gained from your review of the literature on the substantive and methodological aspects, and understandings of designing and conducting educational research more broadly) (max 100 words or equivalent characters)
•    References (not included in word limit)

Word count/equivalent: 1600 words or equivalent characters

Weighting/Value: 40%

Presentation requirements: PDF file uploaded to Moodle, generated from the template.
