Title: Assessment Task 1: Digital Video Evaluation of Teaching Resources Task

Assessment task link to unit learning outcomes: This task will assess you against the first three learning outcomes for this course:
•    critically investigate different rationales of media studies
•    understand and critically evaluate different approaches to teaching media studies
•    identify, evaluate and use different resources for teaching media studies across different year levels
Details of task: You are to compile a video bibliography of ten teaching and learning resources for one Media topic (of your choice) suitable for alignment with the prescribed 7-10 Victorian Media Arts curriculum. The compiled video resource should be suitable for teaching a unit of work (one term) and is targeted for use by other Media teachers.
Produce a 5 minute film that:
1. Introduces the topic and level and is correctly aligned with the 7-10 Media Arts curriculum. The audience for your video is other Media teachers.
2. Lists and evaluates each resource and explains why/how the resource is useful to teaching the chosen topic (this is the rationale for using the resource). Your evaluation should include the limitations of the resource and the specific suggestions for how you (or others) would use the resource in teaching (student/teachers etc). You also need to explain how and why this resource is suitable for a diversity of learners.

Your video bibliography must include the following:
● The curriculum topic for your list of resources and intended level with direct links to the prescribed curriculum. You can do this by simply copying and pasting the curriculum outcome or standard from the relevant curriculum document into your video introduction. The curriculum documents can be found at these websites: The Year 7-10 Media Arts curriculum: http://victoriancurriculum.vcaa.vic.edu.au/the-arts/media-arts/introduction/scope-and-sequence
● Your video resource should include a variety of the following: Relevant books or chapters from books and/or academic journal articles, ATOM study guides, other reading material; Web resources, including websites, online newspaper articles or news reports, YouTube clips, blogs and wikis, policies or documents found online, web quests, online tutorials; Fictional or documentary films, television programs, television commercials; Media equipment or program manuals (e.g. manuals for cameras or manuals for programs like ADOBE Photoshop or iMovie)
● For each resource in your list you should include full bibliographic details as you can (e.g., author, director, producer, publisher, web link). Please use APA (end credits of your video)
Word count/equivalent: 2000 words
Weighting/Value: 50%
Presentation requirements: This task must be presented in the format of video bibliography. I suggest that you create the video using Premier Pro. I also suggest that you include a 'talking head'. You must give the bibliographic details of the resource, immediately followed by the evaluation. Then repeat for each resource. Must be MP4 file and no larger than 500MB
This is an individual assessment task. We will be completing some of this task in class.
