FEEDBACK:

Type: Individual – Business report

Your client is considering growing their boutique rum business. Provide a detailed definition and map of
the micro-environment for the boutique rum industry.

Structure:

• Business Report – see resources.
• Title page: Report title, Student ID. Tutorial day/time. Word count
• Short executive summary; purpose, overall outcome/ conclusion of analysis (200 word max –not
counted in word count)

• Terminology list. What are the key terms used to describe the industry? E.g. if the report was on pet
wearable technology, how are you defining “pet” or “wearable technology”? Provide specific
explanation with us much detail as possible. Are there any alternate names given to this industry?
How broad or narrow are the different terms?

• Definition of industry: clearly articulate the boundaries of the industry; what it includes and does not
include in terms of those who operate in the industry.

• Map/diagram/visualise all the components (e.g. suppliers, etc) and participants (who are the key
suppliers) that make up the micro environment.

• Show key participants in each component of the industry. E.g. suppliers; broadly how many are
there, is there a concentration of one or two suppliers or are their thousands, or is it somewhere
in between these two points?
• This map needs a lot of detail / specifics. Include details on size ($, unit volume, etc) of various
components of the industry where possible.

• Analysis of the micro-environment map
• What is important for the client to understand about the map and why is it important for them
to understand this? Ideally, focus on what will impact the ability of the client to operate and
grow in the industry e.g. how easy or difficult is it to access components of production? Why is it
easy/difficult to access these?
