MGF5992 Professional development - Video CV Assignment
Video CVs are increasingly popular to supplement your traditional
CV as it is a great way to stand out from the crowd. A video CV is a
short visual recording of the candidate, designed to present a
candidate’s skill and experience in a friendly and relatable way and
showcase their personality and creativity. A good video CV is not just
listing your CV off but should convey information that you cannot
put on a resume such as warm, communication skills, humor, and
specific examples and experiences.
Based on your Personal Portfolio (assignment 2) that you have
submitted for your chosen job advertisement, you have been selected
for an online interview!!!!! Congratulations!
The competition is tough and many people have been selected to go
for the next round. Before they bring you into the office to have a
chat with you, they want to see who you are first via video. They
have requested for you to film yourself and submit a max 5 minutes
video no larger than 500MB.
Read the rubric to see how you will be assessed.
Video CV Assignment
Your video CV (max 5minutes) should demonstrate your ability to present
yourself positively in 4 parts:
1. A brief introduction of yourself – announce the role you are applying for
and introduce yourself showing how your skills and experience meet the
key selection criteria.
2. Self-awareness – describe yourself using a topic/concept you’ve learnt
from this class (MGF5992) and how this will help you in the job you’re
applying for. Rather than giving a theoretical example, be sure to be
specific about how you do and will apply the approach you choose in your
new job.
3. Behavioural question - provide an example where you were stressed out
and how you have handled it using the STAR model – situation, task,
action, results.
4. Pose 1 question to the interview panel to demonstrate your interest and
critical thinking. Rather than using a general question, make sure your
question shows that you have done some research into either the
company or the sector or the kind of role this is.
• During the video each of the 4 parts must be announced, verbally or via
video editing features.
• Please DO NOT alter facial features or have the audio and the visual spliced
together – the result can be quite distracting, look unnatural and not give a
great impression to a potential corporate employer.
