ACCT 1081 Professional Values, Ethics & Attitudes
Individual Assignment on Current Ethical Issue
This assignment is worth 20% and has two components:
(a) Research into current ethical issue (written component) 10% to be submitted by 19th August 2018
(b) Class participation (presentation component) 10% to be allocated over weeks 6-12
Requirements:
(a) Research into current ethical Issue (Written component).
This is worth 10% of your marks and should not exceed 1000 words excluding appendices.
You are required to search existing databases of : newspapers, periodicals, YouTube, academic articles to find a current business event that involves either ethical or unethical practice and behaviour. The business event should have occurred in the last two years.
NOTE WELL. Your choice of ethical issue has to be approved by your lecturer as we wish to avoid the same issue being presented in the seminar.
You are then required to discuss the following issues in your assignment
1. What Are the Relevant Facts?
2. Who Are the Primary Stakeholders?
3. What Are the Ethical Issues?
This includes identifying the ethical issue (s) associated with each of the relevant facts and rank or comment on its severity. Include the different perspectives of: utilitarianism, deontological ethics and justice and fairness.
(b) Presentation component
You will be expected to participate in all classes and to present/discuss your selected ethical case along the 3 points above.
